Guesthouse Storytellers - Promised Land

Promised Land

Tue 13 Oct 2026 7.30PM - 10:00PM

🎟️Tickettailor.com

Rock legends retold as timeless myths! A celebration of the power of rock music through spoken-word storytelling, live band and ancient tales.

We’ve all felt it! The pounding beat, the thrill of guitars, the legends we can only wonder at: rock music, in its power and promise, has been a myth for our times since it first blazed its trail across the sky. Come and hear professional storyteller Jon Norman-Mason recast rock legends as the timeless myths they are! Elvis, the Sun King; Patti the Warrior Poet; Tina who Went to Hell and Back; Kurt, Janis and all those who Flew Too High Too Fast... and always the hordes of young questers, setting out in their wake for adventure.

Combining soaring storytelling with a full live rock band, Promised Land reimagines the lives of your favourite rock icons as figures from world mythology and folktale. Meet famous names in less familiar faces, share in little-known legends of fable and rock history, and ask what the music really MEANS to us now...

Featuring members of Robb Johnson & The Irregulars and Shaw's Trailer Park, and the timeless tales of gods, monsters, heroes and outlaws, this is a celebration in words and music of the rock’n’roll myths that bridge the ages. A must for anyone who ever had posters on their walls, played guitar in the mirror, thrilled to the noise and dreamed of freedom...!

“So good!!! I can’t recommend it enough.” ***** Brighton Fringe '

“...what a treat. Faith in music, real story. Just cool.” ****

“These tales should be told in forests, forums and festivals up and down the land... Brilliant band also!” *****

"Certainly deserves an Oscar... This is wildly ambitious exuberant storytelling" - Brighton Source, Merlin in the Wild Wood (2022)

Jekyll and Hyde

📅Tue 10 Nov 2026

🕐7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

🎟️Tickettailor.com

Award-winning performers Amelia Ace Armande and Joshua Crisp reanimate the classic Gothic thriller by Robert Louis Stevenson. Blending the original text with sinuous physicality, dark humour and clever prop puppetry, they morph seamlessly between characters, and conjure up the misty, murky streets of Stevenson’s Victorian London.

Utterson the lawyer has a strange case on his hands. One involving blackmail, murder most foul – and his close friend Doctor Henry Jekyll.

On the surface, it seems as though Doctor Jekyll & Mr Hyde couldn’t be more different from one another. But there is a dark secret that binds the two men together. One that Utterson cannot get to the bottom of…

In this tense two-hander, through snatches of conversation, interview and confession, we uncover the grisly facts that link the celebrated doctor to the monstrous Mr Hyde. But in this fantastical narrative, what can possibly be the truth?

AA Meeting

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are selfsupporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Guesthouse storytellers

WHAT IS STORYTELLING

A peek behind the magic curtain

What makes a good story?

How do you become a storyteller?

Why is storytelling still a secret art?

Stories have been told in every culture since the dawn of humanity. Now a new generation of tellers is breathing fresh life into myth and folktale for modern audiences. What sustains this perennial appeal?

In this fun, interactive evening, Jamie Crawford will share glimpses into the mystery of storytelling via some of his favourite tales. We will open up the floor for discussion and even encourage you to have a tiny try-out at telling a story to the person sitting next to you.

Living a stone’s throw from the Ouse in Newhaven, Jamie Crawford writes, draws and tells stories. Known for his dynamic reworking of traditional tales, for his playful approach to the spoken word and for the warmth of his telling, Jamie has been delivering storytelling performances and workshops since the turn of the millenium.
